CatSper genes and their role in male infertility: a review

Abstract

Genetic defects contribute to a significant proportion of male infertility. This review characterises the CatSper family of sperm-specific calcium channels, their role in sperm motility, and their association with non-syndromic male infertility and the deafness-infertility syndrome, and evaluates CatSper as a potential target for male contraception.
